The author sketches the lives and careers of Thomas Jefferson, Joseph Jefferson, Elizabeth Jefferson, Joseph Jefferson II, Charles Burke and Joseph Jefferson III. Approximately one-seventh of the text concerns the latter actor's career from 1861 to 1880. The chapter on Joseph Jefferson III briefly traces the actor's life and includes the author's lengthy evaluation of Jefferson's version of Rip van Winkle and The Rivals. Spine minutely darkened. Spine bands and panel edges are slightly bumped. Paper edges little foxing. Remains particularly well-preserved overall. Very good copy.
